| Spider monkeys!! |
Ted, Lola, and I just got back from a wonderful family vacation in Jaco, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. We rented a beautiful condo on the beach on the quiet end of town, and proceeded to have a week of sun, pools, the ocean, sand castles, iguanas, monkeys, butterflies, crabs, frogs, great food, sunsets, new friends, and the beautiful work of doing nothing.
It was Lola's first international trip, and she was excited to get a passport. Looking at ours, she called them, "the books about when we were younger." She now says the same thing about hers even though the photo is about a month old. Getting her first stamp in there was pretty cool, and we hope to keep up the trend.
Lola is a great traveler, and made friends wherever we went. They apparently don't see a lot of redheads ("It's orange, momma!") in Costa Rica, so she got a lot of attention. A little boy, maybe 7, was walking to school one morning while we were having breakfast. He stopped in his tracks when he saw Lola, saying, "Muy linda!" and talking with her for a while. A waitress asked to hug her. Mike, the super-hot surf instructor, wooed her. These things do a lot to reinforce Lola's natural shyness and humility.
