Life's not always fair...unless you're Lola!

Last weekend my mom came to visit and we took an overnight trip to Salem to go to the State Fair.  We saw lots of animals - huge cows, little sheep, horses, goats, chickens, baby chicks, bunnies, and even fancy pigeons!  My mom was walking by a chicken when it popped out an egg.  Pretty cool stuff.  We even posed for an old time photo (aka "ye olde tyme").  It was really awesome, as it reminded me of two similar photos that have hung on the wall of my parents' home for about 30 and 25 years, respectively - maybe my mom can take photos and send them up for comparison to ours:

There is something awesome about the family photo in the saloon setting, but in all fairness this is without the fancy mat that covers the bottles and make us look less sleazy.

We also ate fair food, went on the carousel (although the horses were a bit overwhelming), and Lola rode another super slide with her dad.  There was also ice cream!

While there was some drama (why don't hotels put up signs or give better directions?  At one point we were in front of a penitentiary and my phone GPS kept saying we had arrived.), once we found the hotel it was not at all prison-y.  Best of all, it had an indoor pool that we used twice.  I think Lola would trade us as parents to someone with an indoor pool.

Thanks so much to mom for her visit and continued kindness and generosity.  Both of my parents have always played a huge role in my life and now, watching Lola, I kind of get it - all the worry, all the love...apparently that doesn't ever go away.  Thanks to you both for your awesomeness as parents and grandparents.  Lola is lucky to have four awesome grandparents (Darlene and Chuck, Ted's parents, adore Lola and we need to go visit them!) who all love her very much.

  2. Fair food is the best! Totally worth wading through all that manure for a hot dog and some ice cream!
